KNX + DALI / Human Centric Lighting Engineering

KNX + DALI System Architecture

A typical integrated system uses a KNX/DALI gateway to connect the KNX automation network with one or more DALI lighting lines.

Depending on the selected equipment and project requirements, the system can provide individual, group, broadcast, and scene-based lighting control while making lighting functions available to the KNX system.

Human Centric Lighting (HCL)

Human Centric Lighting extends lighting control beyond basic switching and dimming by dynamically adjusting the lighting environment according to time of day, occupancy, daylight conditions, space function, and programmed lighting strategies.

Using DALI DT8 Tunable White luminaires, for example, the system can control both light intensity and correlated color temperature (CCT). KNX can provide the higher-level automation logic, schedules, sensor information, user interaction, and coordination with other building systems.

A typical architecture may follow:

KNX Sensors & Controls → KNX Automation → KNX/DALI Gateway → DALI/DALI-2 → Tunable White Luminaires

This architecture can support automatic lighting profiles while still allowing appropriate local user control and manual overrides.
